Huawei Mate 10 Pro Review

There are many flagship smartphones in the market now, and with all the brands and models being released one after the other, it is becoming increasingly hard to choose the right smartphone for you, especially if you are looking for a perfect mobile phone for travel photography.

Huawei Mate 10 Pro Review

Whats inside the Box?

Inside the black and neat box, you will find the Smartphone, USB Type C cable, the round SIM ejector tool, Wall Charger, USB C to 3.5mm port, manuals and the FREE soft silicon case.

Specs and Features

Body Dimensions. 154.2 x 74.5 x 7.9 mm. This phone comes in Midnight Blue, Titanium Gray, Mocha Brown, and Pink Gold. Unlike metal or aluminum phones, this phone model is covered in aesthetic, modern Corning Gorilla Glass that is both strong and good-looking.
OS and Chipset. It’s equipped with the latest Android 8.0 (Oreo) and Octa-core Hisilicon Kirin 970 as its processor.
Camera. The Leica Dual Camera with f/1.6 Aperture is to die for. Leica has been a renowned camera brand, and having it on your phone is a huge plus for travel bloggers like me. The dual cameras (12 MP and 20 MP) with dual LED dual-tone flash make shooting panoramic sceneries easier and prettier. The front camera is at an 8 MP capacity, which is notably lower compared to other brands.
Battery Life. The non-removable battery is at 4,000 mAh, which is significantly higher than previously released Huawei phone models like Huawei P9, which only comes with a 3,000 mAh. battery. The ultra-fast charging (58% in 30 minutes) is also very handy for people always on the go.

Display. The AMOLED touchscreen has 16M colors, and the massive 6-inch screen is marvelous. The approximately 80.9% screen to body ratio means more screen, more experience, and less wasted space. As for screen resolution, it’s at 1080 x 2160 pixels at 402 pixels per inch.
Sound. This is where people anchor their debates on the sound capacity of Huawei Mate 10 Pro. This phone does not come with a headphone jack, which can be a major deal breaker for most. If you habitually listen to music while carrying out your daily tasks or traveling, you will have to make a switch from the traditional headsets to the wireless ones. And that also means you have to make do with the drawbacks of Bluetooth sound technology.
Memory. While this model does not have a card slot, the 128 GB internal memory of the phone practically eliminates the need for external storage, unless you are a massive hoarder of files. What’s more is that the 6 GB RAM makes everything work smoothly.
Other features. Other notable features that come with the package is a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, a compass and barometer feature, 3.1. Type-C reversible connector, and pre-installed HD video player for video files like WMV, H.265, and DivX.

Price

Huawei Mate 10 Pro is currently priced at Php 41,099 via Lazada Philippines. This is significantly more expensive than the Php 32,599 price of Huawei Mate 10. With the high-tech specs and very sleek design, this is worth its price, especially when compared to phones with similar specifications.
It is, however, not as affordable as the recently released trendy Huawei Nova 2i.

Final Verdict

The absence of a headphone jack and a card slot are bold steps by Huawei. These two are fundamental features of many flagship phones, and it will take a lot of convincing before people would like to try out the latest innovations in android phones, like Bluetooth sound and reliance on internal storage.

In overall, however, Huawei Mate 10 Pro is priced reasonably, and a phone having advanced specs that is priced within its range is a nice investment, especially for travel and lifestyle bloggers and for those who love smartphone photography. The absence of a headphone jack might just be our first clumsy steps to wireless technology, and Huawei is doing a good job taking the lead.
